Michaela Mae embarked on her musical journey over 25 years ago, where she began taking singing and music theory lessons. For the past fifteen years, she has been singing professionally, lending her talents to folk, bluegrass, and jazz bands.

Having studied both classical and contemporary music techniques, Michaela finds her greatest passion in teaching contemporary music. Along her musical path, she has also learned songwriting and picked up additional instruments such as the guitar, piano, and upright bass. Through her musical exploration, Michaela has come to believe that mastering both singing and playing an instrument is vital for a musician’s growth.

She has earned over 45 credits in Music Education courses. She has served as a teacher with the Peace Corps and the Marin Public School system. She currently teaches private music lessons in-home and at Music to My Ears in Sebastopol and Cotati. She also teaches harmony classes at the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center and songwriting classes at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts. In addition, Michaela teaches family music classes for children ages 0-5 through Mini Music. In her personal projects, she collaborates with Wyld Iris and Miranda Mallard.

Lessons with Michaela are designed to be enjoyable, educational, and focused on developing well-rounded musicianship.

Classes Offered

Mini Music Classes

Mini Music is Marin and Sonoma County’s beloved music program for young children and preschoolers. Created especially for infants, toddlers and young children up to age five and their parents or caregivers, the classes include singing, playing musical instruments, rhythmic movement and dance.

You will both look forward to these fun-filled classes that will foster a love of music and dance and bring out your child’s natural abilities.

Sessions are 10 weeks (summer sessions are 6) with over twenty weekly classes to choose from.

No child is too young and no parent or grandparent too old to take part and enjoy this early childhood curriculum. There are twelve CDs and three years worth of music in the Mini Music program.

Harmony Classes

Harmony Playground is a song circle class taught in Sebastopol, CA which provides a captivating opportunity for families and individuals to embrace the power of harmony and express their voices within a vibrant community. As a collective of passionate voices, Harmony Playground celebrates a harmonious fusion of contemporary, folk, and World Music. In these classes, each song is taught in the ancient oral tradition and is carefully selected for its ability to bring solace, ignite joy, and foster a sense of connection within the community. No matter your skill level, every singer is embraced wholeheartedly within this musical haven.
